Albums

Toto's discography consists of 13 studio albums and 4 live albums. There are also a few compilations. Toto has released original music and collaborated with other artists on soundtracks and films. The group has won multiple Grammy Awards.

Before the formation of Toto the group, members worked as sessions for other musicians. David Paich, the son of drummer Marty Paich, and Jeff Porcaro (the brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro and drummer Jeff Porcaro) all performed on Boz Scaggsalbum from 1975 Silk Degrees. Toto was formed in 1976 as a result of the collaboration.

The third album of Toto, Turn Back, marked an abrupt departure from the progressive sound of their earlier albums, and was criticised for its lack of hit singles. In 1985 the group's lead singer Fergie Frederiksen left the group and the band held auditions for the new frontman. The band selected guitarist Steve Lukather, and recorded Fahrenheit in the year 1986.



In 1998, Toto celebrated its 20th anniversary by re-discovering old demos and tapes to release a special record called Toto XX. The album was well-received by fans and the band embarked on a tour with former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.

During the tour for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun the drummer Leland Sklar quit the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live set titled Falling in Between, which included live recordings from the tour and an interview with the band.

The band decided to let him leave at the conclusion of the tour and then hired guitarist/singer Joseph Williams in his place. David Hungate, the drummer, also left the group after the tour. He was replaced by bassist Leland Sklar.

The most popular video of the group is "Africa" which has more than one billion views on YouTube. The video takes place in a library and features the band performing in front of a pile of books about Africa.

Keyboardist Paich was regular on albums by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.

Toto was founded in Los Angeles by high school age friends drummer David Paich, guitarist Steve Lukather and brothers Jeff and Mike Porcaro. The band became one of the most listened-to rock bands in the world and has sold over 40 million albums.
